Freeware and Shareware Utilities

Wincode 2.7.3 Wincode is a freeware utility that allows you to encode and decode binary attachments on Win 95/98/NT. You can use this program for email transmission of binary files. I have used it to Accuterm an image to my Pick host.

It encodes a binary file by converting it to an ascii format. Email, Newsgroups and even the web use this technique. Email uses base64 encoding, News uses uses UUencoding and the web uses Mime.

Rawrite.com This DOS based program can assist you in creating Pick or Unix floppies on a Microsoft system. Just give it a file name with the diskette image and it will write it onto a floppy. Useful for sending t-dumps across email or web page downloads. Just use the Unix dd command to capture diskette images for posting on web sites. Then allow downloading of the image along with this program for reconstituting the original diskette.
HM.COM Harddisk Modifier: This DOS program is probably the only program that will allow you to edit raw sectors on your hard disk. I use it to zero out my partition table when it gets corrupted. It is sector 0,0,1 on all hard disks. I have found that fdisk, format and drive copy fail to clear out corrupted partition tables.
